Plumbing installation in a private house in Riga

Plumbing installation in a private house means the house's internal water supply and drainage: from the inlet on the inside of the house wall to every tap, toilet, shower and washing machine. We install the water distribution with a manifold or branches, the hot water pipes from the water heater (boiler) and the internal drainage up to where it passes through the wall or foundation. One outlet costs from €40; we calculate the total price from the list of points and agree it before the work starts.

Where this job starts and where it ends

The job starts at the inlet inside the house: after the inlet valve and the water meter assembly if the house is connected to the city water supply, or after the pump and pressure tank if the water comes from your own well. On the drainage side the job ends at the outlet through the wall or foundation. Work outside the house walls is not part of this service.

Rīgas ūdens is responsible for the network up to the ownership boundary, most often the outer wall of the billing meter chamber or the plot boundary. Everything beyond it, including all the plumbing inside the house, is up to the owner: you choose how to install it and you are responsible for its condition.

What is different in a private house compared with an apartment

Manifold and pipe materials in a private house

Private houses often get a manifold system, because each fixture or floor has its own pipe and valve in a cabinet. If a mixer tap needs replacing in the first floor bathroom, the rest of the house keeps its water. A tee system is shorter and cheaper in materials, but it has more joints in the walls and floors.

For the water supply, multilayer (PEX-AL-PEX), PEX or PPR pipes are used, and for drainage PVC or PP pipes. In floors and stud walls the pipes are laid before the screed or cladding; in masonry walls they are set into chases.

If the water comes from a well or borehole and the pump itself is not working, that is a separate job: well pump repair. For connecting a water heater see also water heater installation.

When city networks arrive in the district

In several Riga districts of private houses, city networks have been built or are being designed in recent years. In phase 5 of the water utility development, new sewers were built in Berģi, Imanta and Beberbeķi, and in Dārziņi Rīgas ūdens started designing a central water supply and sewer system in 2025.

Work outside the house walls is not part of this service. Inside the house, after switching to the city networks, the drain outlet often has to be rerouted to the new position, along with the water inlet with its shut-off valves. In Dārziņi wooden summer houses have gradually been insulated and fitted with heating, so in such houses it is worth checking whether the old pipes were laid for summer use only.

How plumbing installation in a private house works

  1. 1

    List of points

From the house plan or an inspection, a list of all water and drainage points is drawn up floor by floor, including the outdoor tap, the washing machine and the plant room.

  2. 2

    Routes and falls

We decide where the water pipes and drainage will run, where the vented stack will be and where the drainage leaves the house.

  3. 3

    Inlet assembly

A shut-off valve, a manifold or distribution and the water heater connection are fitted at the inlet.

  4. 4

    Pipe installation

The pipes are laid in the floor, the stud frame or chases, leaving an outlet at the right height for each fixture.

  5. 5

    Testing

The water supply is pressure tested and the drainage tested with water before the pipes are screeded over or clad.

  6. 6

    Pipe diagram

The pipe layout is photographed and marked on the plan, so that later you know where the pipes run in the floor and walls.

How much does plumbing installation in a private house cost?

JobPriceNote
One outlet (water or drainage point)from €40for 1 point; total price based on the list of points

The price depends on the number of points and the length of the runs, a manifold or tee system, and the pipe material. It also depends on whether the pipes are laid in the floor and stud frame or chased into masonry, on the drain outlet from the house and the vent stack, and on connecting the water heater and the pump assembly.

The price does not include materials, the heating system and boiler room work, groundwork, or anything outside the house walls. For rebuilding individual points during a bathroom renovation see plumbing rough-in. You can see all jobs on the plumbing services page.
