Shower cabin repair most often means one of three jobs: replacing worn seals, fixing the doors and rollers, or finding where water is getting onto the floor or through to the neighbours. A cabin can usually be repaired without taking it apart. Repair costs from €40 per call-out, with spare parts extra.

Water on the floor does not always come from where the puddle appears. The table helps you work out where to look.
| Where you see water | Most common cause |
|---|---|
| On the floor by the doors | A worn bottom door seal or magnetic seal, or the doors do not close fully |
| Along the wall or in a corner | A peeling silicone joint between the tray and the wall or at the vertical profile |
| Under the tray, behind the panel | The trap or waste connection, less often a crack in the tray |
| At the neighbours below, but your side is dry | The trap under the tray or a joint where water gets under the tiles |
| At the mixer tap | The tap connections or supply pipes in the wall |
A simple test: pour water only into the tray, then only onto the door seals, then onto the walls, and watch after which step the water appears. This way the fault can often be found without taking anything apart. If it leaks at the tap, see mixer tap repair.
The plastic seals on the door edges harden, crack or break off over time. New ones are chosen by glass thickness and seal profile, so a piece of the old seal or its size is useful. Magnetic seals, which hold the doors closed, are replaced in pairs.
Black or peeling silicone cannot be covered with a new layer: the old silicone must be removed completely and the area cleaned and dried. The same job on a bath is described on the bath joint sealing page.
Sliding doors run on rollers at the top and bottom. When a roller breaks or its axle wears, the door comes off the track, sits crooked or will not close, and then the seals leak too. Rollers are chosen by diameter, type of fixing and the distance between the screws.
Hinged doors more often need the hinges adjusting or replacing. For many cheap cabins the original parts are no longer available. Then universal parts can be adapted, but if that does not work, it is more honest to say that replacing the cabin or the doors is the better option.
To reach the trap, the front panel of the tray is removed. There the trap and flexible waste connections to the sewer and the waste seal are checked. If the tray is tiled in and there is no service hatch, access is more difficult and the job costs more.
An acrylic tray can flex if its legs are not adjusted correctly, and then the silicone at the wall cracks again and again. The legs are adjusted and only then is a new joint made. If the tray is cracked, repairing it is not worth it: see shower cabin installation, priced from €80.
We do not repair the electronics of massage and steam cabins. The plumbing parts of such cabins (trap, supply pipes, seals) can be repaired.
Description
In the form, describe the cabin and the damaged part and, if you know it, give the manufacturer or model. That way spare parts can be found in good time.
Finding the leak
The seals, joints, trap and supply pipes are checked one by one until we find where the water is getting out.
Repair
The seals or rollers are replaced, the doors are adjusted, the trap is tightened or replaced, and the old silicone is removed and new applied.
Testing
The cabin is tested with water. After new silicone, do not use the shower until it has cured as the manufacturer specifies.
Shower cabin repair costs from €40 per call-out for one cabin. The price depends on what needs fixing (seals, rollers, hinges, trap or supply pipe), whether parts are available for the specific model, whether the panel has to be removed or the tray lifted for a leak under the tray, and how hard it is to remove the old silicone and mould.
The price does not include spare parts (rollers, seals, trap, shower handset), repair of massage or steam cabin electronics, or tile repairs after a leak. We agree the exact price before the work starts.
If the cabin is too old or you want a shower in place of the bath, see bath to shower conversion. All jobs are on the plumbing services page.
