Trap replacement is needed when it drips under the sink or bath, a sewage smell comes from the drain, or the old trap is cracked and clogged. We replace bathroom and kitchen sink traps, bath and shower tray traps, if needed with a branch for a washing machine or dishwasher. Replacing one trap costs from €25, and we agree the price before the work starts.
A trap is a bent pipe with a water seal. The water that stays in the bend stops sewer air from entering the room. If the drain smells, the water seal is usually gone or the trap is no longer airtight.
Leaks have other causes. Most often it is a cracked plastic body or nut, a worn cone seal at the sink waste, a stretched or kinked flexible pipe, or a trap of the wrong diameter fitted to the drain with a makeshift adapter.

Checking the cause
We find out whether the trap itself is leaking, the joint with the sink or the transition to the drain, and whether the drain is blocked further down the pipe.
Removing the old trap
The old trap is unscrewed, the old seal or flexible pipe is taken out of the drain opening, and the waste and opening are cleaned.
Matching the sizes
The new trap has to match the sink or bath waste and the drain pipe, usually 40 or 50 mm. If the sizes do not match, a factory adapter is used, not tape or silicone.
Installation
The new trap is fitted with new seals and, if needed, a branch for the machine. Plastic nuts are tightened by hand so the body does not crack.
Testing with water
The sink or bath is filled and emptied at full flow, so the joints are checked under load.
