Installing a toilet or replacing an old toilet with a new one costs from €60 for the work. We remove the old toilet, check the drain outlet, install and fix the new one, connect the cistern and check that nothing leaks. We install a wall-hung toilet with a concealed frame from €150.

Most problems in a toilet replacement come not from the toilet itself but from the connection to the drain. The new toilet has to fit the existing outlet, and that has to be worked out before you buy.
The toilet, bath, sink and the pipes after the inlet valve are the apartment owner's separate property, so an ordinary toilet replacement does not need the house manager's permission. If the drain branch at the riser has to be rebuilt, that already affects common property and has to be agreed.
Shutting off the water
The valve at the cistern or at the apartment inlet is closed, the cistern is emptied and the water is removed from the bowl.
Removing the old toilet
The cistern and fixings are unscrewed and the toilet is disconnected from the outlet. Old toilets are often cemented in, so they are freed carefully so as not to damage the tiles and the outlet.
Preparing the outlet
The drain outlet is cleaned, its condition is checked, and a new seal or a flexible pan connector is fitted if the outlet does not fit directly.
Installing the new toilet
The toilet is positioned, levelled and fixed to the floor, and the cistern and seat are fitted.
Connection and testing
The water supply is connected, the toilet is flushed several times and we check for leaks at the outlet, the cistern and the supply.
With a wall-hung toilet the cistern is hidden in the wall, and the toilet hangs on a metal concealed frame. The frame takes the whole load, so it is fixed to the floor and the wall, and only after that is the wall clad with plasterboard and tiled.
The work differs depending on the situation. If a floor-standing toilet is replaced with a wall-hung one, the drain outlet has to be rebuilt to the frame level and the water supply moved. If the frame is already built in and the wall tiled, only the toilet and the button need to go on, and that is cheaper.
Before the wall is closed we test the joints for leaks, because after tiling the cistern can only be reached through the button opening. At the same time a bidet shower can be connected, if a water supply with a mixer tap is planned next to the toilet.
If the toilet is sound but the cistern leaks, does not stop the water or does not flush, there is no need to replace the toilet. Toilet and cistern repair is enough, and it costs from €30. Replacement makes sense if the toilet is cracked, leaks at the outlet, is very old or is being replaced together with the whole bathroom.
If water does not drain from the toilet, the problem is usually in the drain, not the toilet: see drain cleaning. If you are replacing all the bathroom fittings, see also bath replacement and sink installation, and for all jobs the plumbing services page.
| Job | Price | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Floor-standing toilet installation or replacement | from €60 | standard toilet with cistern |
| Wall-hung toilet installation | from €150 | set: concealed frame, toilet and button |
For a floor-standing toilet, the price depends on removing and carrying out the old toilet, the outlet type and the need for an adapter or flexible connector, replacing the cistern supply and an uneven floor. For a wall-hung toilet it matters whether the frame is fixed to a load-bearing wall or within a plasterboard structure, and whether the outlet has to be rebuilt and the water supply moved.
The price does not include the toilet and cistern, the concealed frame and button, the flexible connector, supply hose and valve, plasterboard and tiling, or disposal of the old toilet unless agreed. We give the exact price after assessing the situation and agree it before the work starts.

| Best for | A quick replacement without renovation | A bathroom renovation, when the walls are being tiled anyway |
If you are not renovating the bathroom, a floor-standing toilet is the simplest option. A wall-hung toilet makes sense during a renovation, because the concealed frame goes in before tiling. If you are also thinking about a bidet or a bidet shower, plan the water supply at the same time: bidet installation.
The concealed frame is fixed to the floor and to a load-bearing wall or a plasterboard stud, and its height is adjusted so the toilet sits at a comfortable height. The waste outlet is connected to the frame pipe with a fall. The water supply goes to the cistern through a shut-off valve that stays reachable through the flush plate opening.
Before the wall is boarded, the cistern is filled and the joints are checked. After tiling, the toilet is hung and the flush plate fitted.
If an old frame is damaged or its cistern has cracked, the frame is replaced, which means opening the wall and the tiles. Often the frame is fine and only the fill valve or flush mechanism is faulty, and these are replaced through the flush plate opening without breaking the wall: concealed cistern repair.
